Part of every Pet Sitting fee contributes to Animal Welfare
Adelaide Pet Sitters support the work of Animals Asia through their “Sponsor a Bear” programme. We currently sponsor Kira, a middle aged Asian Black Bear, also known as a Moon Bear, who is cared for in Animal Asia’s Moon Bear Rescue Centre, Chengdu, China. Our sponsorship funds the basic care Kira needs to recover and lead a healthy and happy life.
In countries across Asia, thousands of bears live a life of torture on bear farms, so that their bile can be extracted and used in traditional medicine. Animals Asia Foundation is devoted to the welfare of wild and urban animals in Asia. Their bear rescue programme aims to bring the barbaric practice of bear farming to an end and they have agreements with the Chinese and Vietnamese governments to rescue 700 bears, to live in sanctuaries where they will be able to live out their lives in peace and safety.
Animals Asia’s Vietnam bear rescue centre has been saved from the eviction threat that has been hanging over it since 5 October 2012. Jill Robinson MBE, Founder and CEO, Animals Asia commented:
“Our priority has been to rehabilitate these bears after their years of trauma from being locked up in small cages and milked for their bile. If we had been forced to relocate it would have had a terrible impact on their wellbeing. We want to sincerely thank the tens of thousands of supporters from around the world who wrote letters, sent e-mails and signed petitions calling for the eviction to be stopped.”
